Emanuel is a chicken. He'd rather play with his marbles than stand up to bullies. Even the monsters in his abuelita's folk stories scare him. So imagine his surprise when one of those monsters, El Raton, appears in his bedroom one night to steal his marbles and drag him through a portal to Astlan, home to the Aztecs.
Thankfully, Emanuel is rescued by a shape-shifter named Chiko, who introduces him to this magical land where fabled spirits and monsters of his childhood run amok. It's not long before Emanuel discovers the Sun Stone and must become the Sun Warrior, protector of Astlan. Only he can put an end to El Raton's reign and free the people of Astlan from his terror.
10 Years in the Making
A long time ago, Polloman began as a silly black and white comic about a chicken warrior fighting El Cucuy, the mexican boogeyman.
These monsters existed at home, but never on TV or comics, so I tried to make my own story.
It became two full-colored comic books before the stars aligned and it was picked up by Harper Collins to become a graphic novel.
I spent the years 2019-2026 researching Aztec history, mythology, art, and the Nahuatl language while writing and drawing this world until it was ready to print.
The nine book series begins with this book. I welcome you to the world of Aztlan.
